After making its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the 918 Spyder Concept is on its way to the Museum of Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen where it will be displayed starting October 1 through 7, 2010.

The 918 Spyder is powered by a V8 engine delivering more than 500 hp and three electric motors with overall output of 218hp. The engine emits just 70 grams CO2 per kilometer and has a fuel consumption of just 3.0 liters/100 kilometers (94 mpg imp). Despite this the car’s performances are impressive: the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 198 mph, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT.

Press release after the jump.

We’ve all been there; riding along in your lowered ride, enjoying the day, when all of a sudden – Thump, Scraaaaaape. Another victim of that darn speed bump. It’s moments like these that make the driver wish he had a higher car. And it’s situations like these that have made TechArt got to the trouble of preparing a new noselift system that can offer 60 mm of additional height at the front spoiler. This system can be applied to models like the Porsche Boxster, the Cayman, and the 911.

The TechArt Noselift System is activated by a convenient little button located in the roof console of the Boxster and in the center console of the Cayman. The noselift system, including that convenient little button, is installed with EMC-safe electronic control units and vehicle-specific wiring harnesses. High performance test procedures are followed to ensure that, when that button is pressed, the car smoothly and silently adjusts its height to a safer level for those nasty little speed bumps and ramps.

Press release after the jump.

The next generation Porsche Boxster is getting revealed more and more each day. The car is currently under intense testings before the official debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

The next generation Boxster will feature center-mounted exhaust pipes like the current Boxster and restyled side mirrors. Take a look at the Panamera and you’ll be able to see the general idea for the exterior of the Boxster. The Boxster may take the center stack feature from the Panamera as well.

Under the hood the Boxster will use a slightly revised version of the 310-HP 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine, but rumors suggest that it might receive an advanced four-cylinder engine making about as much horsepower as the current 2.9-liter six (255). This new engine is rumored to debut in the new base-level Boxster. And like the 918 SPyder, the new Boxtser may also receive a hybrid version.

The 2012 Porsche Boxster will be built on a platform that is around 173 inches longer than the current one. This lengthening is vital to the lineup if Porsche wants to be able to squeeze in the future baby Boxster.

When you get into this category, it’s hard to say if one is better than the other. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and McLaren are all wonderful products, but is one better than the other one in the real world? Probably not, but there are a few things we can look at to try and determine a solid list.

When you have this kind of money, performance is expected out of these machines and that is a key thing to remember. Every car on this list is fast enough for most people. Many will begin to point out numbers and statistics to prove that their car should be ranked higher up. What they fail to understand is that most of the people who buy these machines will never get close to those numbers. For them, it’s more about the car. With that in mind, we will look at styling, prestige, luxury, and the sensations that you get when you sit behind the wheel.

There is a never a right answer when comparing these machines. Everybody has their own opinion and everybody will think they’re correct. We really had to think about this one long and hard because, well, we had no idea how to rank most of these machines. The top ten supercars for 2010 is just one of life’s great mysteries.

Nonetheless, we persevered on your behalf to try and rank today’s best supercars. We would also like to point out price was not considered in this ranking. If you can afford any one of these cars, most of the time price isn’t going to be a big deal.

Hit the jump to see the list.

Porsche is going all out with their 60th anniversary celebration, and to their credit they’re trying to get a lot of their fans involved.

Their latest offering involves a 500-word essay, thousands of contestants, and three all-expense paid trips to the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Alabama.

Interested now?

If you’ve got the skills to make a finely-crafted 500-word story that “exemplifies your unique passion for a specific Porsche car, an experience, or the brand as a whole”, then you better hit them keyboards and start writing. Just know that if you’re chosen as one of the three winners, you’re going to experience something the rest of your Porsche-loving peers can only dream about.

You’ve got until November 1, 2010 to make your story and, if you’re one of the 20 entries that gets picked, your story, as well as the 19 others, will then be decided entirely by fan voting.

Start writing!

It was only about six months ago that 80-year-old Stirling Moss was unfortunate enough to fall down an elevator shaft in his very own home. After recovering quickly from minor injuries, Moss moved forward quickly by purchasing a Porsche RS61 just like the one he raced in the sixties. That little speedster set him back a record $1.7 million, but it was well worth it for Moss as he was set to race it in Monterey this past weekend.

Unfortunately, while Moss was taking a warm-up lap at the the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s qualifying session, a fellow racer ran into him on his out lap. Stirling was unhurt, but the car, however, suffered considerable damage rendering it undriveable for the rest of the Monterey weekend. As this particular weekend was due to be his only race outing in the RS this year, he will now have to wait until 2011, once it is repaired in the United States, to get back behind the wheel of this classic Porsche race car.

When it comes to the Black Stallion, everyone has big expectations. And why shouldn’t they? Porsche, after all, has been designing and building exquisite automobiles since 1931 and has never done anything to disappoint its customers. Or have they? Some might say that Porsche has fallen off the true sportscar wagon they helped create by adding SUVs, hybrids, and diesels to their lineup, but we think that most people will be happy with the future plans that Porsche has decided to share with us all. In the next four years, Porsche plans to unveil no less than six new models or facelift versions, which, if anyone is keeping track, is even more than their automaker brethren, Ferrari.

In 2011, the German company will bring hybrid and diesel versions for the Panamera. They will also be bringing the Cayman Clubsport, an improved version of the Cayman that will deliver between 320 and 330 HP. In 2012, we will see a new Boxster and Cayman. The new models will get new hard-tops and slightly extended platforms to improve the cars’ cabins and luggage space.

In 2013, Porsche will bring the long-rumored “baby-Boxster,” a Volkswagen BlueSport-based car that will be offered in both coupe and roadster versions. In the same year we will also see the new 928, a Panamera-based Gt powered by a V8 engine. And finally in 2014, Porsche will bring a facelift version for the Cayenne and the production version of the 918 Spyder.

During this past weekend the Porsche 918 Spyder made its appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. However, a few days before that the car made its driving debut on a closed road in Monterey California. Behind the wheel was Porsche AG Design Chief Michael Mauer.

The 918 Spyder is powered by a V8 engine delivering more than 500 hp and three electric motors with overall output of 218hp. The engine emits just 70 grams CO2 per kilometer and has a fuel consumption of just 3.0 liters/100 kilometers (94 mpg imp). Despite this, the car’s performances are impressive. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph is made in just under 3.2 seconds while top speed goes to 198 mph. The most impressive performance number for the Porsche would have to be its lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring of less than 7:30 minutes. This is faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT.

We may not have been able to attend the Pebble Beach Concours, but, thankfully, TeamSpeed was. And, not only did they attend, but they already have some pictures that are worth splattering all over the place; pictures of the Porsche 918 Spyder as it is shown off at a private Porsche event.

There’s no way Porsche can hold this car back from the production line. Well, okay, there is one way. It’s rumored that the prototype Spyder took five months and $20 million to build! That may be a small kink in Porsche’s plans that will hopefully be fixed.

The production 918 Spyder will feature a complete carbon fiber shell as did the concept, but will have an aluminum front end to comply with U.S. safety standards. On the inside, the Porsche already has a beautiful touchscreen center console and camera rear view mirrors.

When Porsche unveiled the 918 Spyder Concept, they announced it would have a better Nurburgring time compared to the Carrera GT supercar. Of course, at that time, no one expected that the time would catapult to being a full eight seconds faster.

Originally, Porsche claimed that the Carrera GT would have a ’ring time of 7:32. The Carrera GT surprised them with an actual time of 7:28. This time, Porsche estimated that the 918 Spyder would have a time of 7:30 and their vehicle surprised them yet again with a time of 7:20. Porsche may not have a good reputation for calculating potential ’ring times, but their cars sure have a good reputation for clobbering them.

Despite this, the car’s performances are impressive: the sprint from 0 to 60 mph is done in just under 3.2 seconds, while top speed goes to 198 mph.

All we can say about this is that we are happy that Porsche has decided to take the Porsche 918 Spyder to production as a limited edition supercar. It should be beautiful and powerful, and Porsche has made sure the price tag will match it. It is estimated that the Porsche 918 Spyder will cost about $650,000. Someone really rich is going to enjoy this car.

The next Porsche 911 will be revealed next year at the Frankfurt Motor Show and we can’t wait. Until then, we have Autocar to give us a look at what the next 911, codenamed the 991, might look like.

Porsche is hoping to win back a few customers that might have gone off to drive a Ferrari or any other Italian product. This new machine should cement the company’s role with Volkswagen.

The 991 will be a heavily re-engineered product that should go on sale around October 2011 in the United Kingdom. The exterior will get redone – in that typical Porsche way – and there will be a more powerful and more fuel-efficient flat-six motor.

The prices will rise, as the company wants to move the car up in the market in order to make room for a new entry-level model. Porsche engineers hope that this 991 model will be good enough to carry on through 2017, when the next update is due.

Porsche, Porsche, Porsche. That’s all we have been hearing lately and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Some might consider Porsche’s trip down the hybrid lane as a bit of a betrayal against its sporting roots, but we see it as a natural progression that every automaker, no matter how sporting, will need to make eventually. And Porsche is very proud of their achievements as they will showcase their three rockin’ hybrids during the Monterey Peninsula Automotive Week from August 9-15th, 2010.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid, the Porsche Spyder concept, and the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid will all be on display sometime during the maniacal stream of events taking place during this automotive week. The Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid will be on display at the Porsche Zentrum on August 12-15th, 2010. The Porsche Zentrum is a specially-built facility open to visitors and is located on the compounds of the Pebble Beach Lodge. The 911 GT3 Hybrid will also be on display at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday, August 14th with another appearance on Sunday, August 15th at the Pebble Beach Concours. The 911 will be joined at the Pebble Beach Concours by the Porsche Spyder Concept which will be the highlight of the weekend as it makes its first North American debut. However, the three hybrids will not be the only ones on display.

As part of Porsche’s 60 years in the automotive business, Porsche will be bringing a collection of its classic and contemporary models to be displayed throughout the week. The Quail Lodge will be the temporary home of a few rare Porsche models such as a 1955 and 1958 356 Speedster, a 1960 356 B Carrera, 2000 GS Carrera GT, and a 1962 356 Carrera 2 Cabrio. Newer Porsche models will also be on hand for consumer test drives during this beauty packed weekend.

In a scene straight out of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Porsche 911 GT3 partake in a friendly race along the streets of downtown Sweden. The two-part video features the two supercars taking turns revving it up and blasting along the dark and desolate street.

But what makes this video a lot more interesting happens at the start of the second video where, in true law enforcing fashion, a police car shows up and starts chasing to the Lambo and Porsche. Unfortunately for the officers giving chase in God-knows-what vehicle, reality – or in this case, a massive dose of horsepower advantage – starts to kick in and the overwhelmed cop car gets lost in the two supercar’s collective dust.

We don’t know if the cop car thought that he could actually catch up with a Porsche or a Lamborghini, but hey, we certainly applaud the officers for the effort. It was just a losing battle from the get-go.

Not much is known about the 2012 Porsche Panamera Hybrid so any information we can get is fine by us. And seeing since the 25,000th Panamera just rolled off the Leipzig plant in Germany today, it’s nice to know that the Hybrid version is not getting forgotten. What we hear about the future hybrid is that it will share the same engine as the Cayenne S Hybrid. This means the green Panamera will be loaded with a 3.0L supercharged V6 engine that will produce 333hp. This will be combined with an electric motor that will develop 47hp. Together these two components will allow the Panamera Hybrid to deliver 380hp and 427lb.-ft. of torque at 1,000rpm. If fuel economy matches the Cayenne S Hybrid as well then the Panamera will be looking at 34.4mpg.

The price for the 2012 Porsche Panamera Hybrid is not yet known and, unfortunately, neither is the sales date, but we’ll get back with more information as soon as we uncover it.

Good news for Porsche lovers, the German automaker has decided to put the 918 into production. The 918 was first seen at this year’s Geneva Motor Show with a plug-in hybrid motor that could manage 78 miles per gallon, or so they claimed.

The concept car used a 500-horsepower V8, along with a pair of electric motors with 109 horsepower each. There was also a lithium-ion battery back that could give drivers 16 miles of emissions-free driving. We don’t except that crazy engine setup to change when the car is put into production.

We have heard a few rumors that suggest the 918 Spyder will cost $650,000, but it should qualify for tax credit, not that it means much. The $7,500 credit won’t do much to soften the blow. This car makes even a Ferrari 612 seem cheap. You could buy a Nissan Leaf to be green and an Aston Martin DBS for fun and still have money left over before you reach the price tag of the 918.

The Porsche Cayman Club Sport has been in the pipeline longer than any of us anticipated, but now it looks like the boys from Stuttgart are getting ready to give the lightweight Cayman its turn in the spotlight when it makes its official debut in the latter part of this year at the Los Angeles Motor Show.

The car, which is being prepped to become a lightweight version of the Cayman similar to how Porsche constructed the Boxster Spyder, is expected to be about 170 pounds lighter than the stock version of the Cayman S. In addition to that, the Cayman Club Sport is also expected to come with a 3.4-liter 334-horsepower engine that can reportedly clock a 0-60mph time of a little under five seconds (4.6 seconds).

More details are expected to be divulged when the lightweight Cayman makes its public debut in Los Angeles later this year. When it does make it to dealerships, the car is looking to be sold at around $66,330.

Porsche is delving deeper into its electric research with the help of three electric models based off of the Porsche Boxster. Their goal is to combine greater efficiency with even lower fuel consumption and emissions to further development their hybrid concepts such as the 918 Spyder, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, and the new Cayenne S Hybrid. The Cayenne is the first of these hybrid models to run on electric power alone.

Porsche hopes that by testing these three electric Boxsters, they will be able to receive further information on the electric drive components and battery systems for future all-electric vehicles including the Panamera S Hybrid which they hope will enter the market early next year. For right now, there are no production models in sight, but it won’t stay that way for long. Michael Macht, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG, says, “We will definitely be offering an electric sports car in future. But such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche.”

So are more electric Porsches in our near future? Let us know what you think.

Does your need for speed leave you wishing there were more options to boost power and create that exhilarating feeling you get when you are whipping past everything leaving behind blurred images of what once was? Yeah, we think Techart feels the same way. Apparently the Porsche Panamera Turbo left something to be desired in terms of horsepower so Techart took it upon themselves to create a fun little button in the center console.

What does this button do? Well, once pressed by the driver, the button allows the Panamera Turbo to get a jump of 80 horsepower. Yeah, just with the touch of a button. Pretty cool, huh? The package is called the Techtronic, or TA 070/T1, and allows the Panamera’s 4.8L V8 engine to jump from 500hp to 580hp. It also increases the torque to the top range of 830Nm at somewhere between 3200rpm and 3600rpm. This little button brings down the Turbo’s 0-60mph time to 3.8secs from 4.0 and increases its top speed from 188mph to 195mph. The 0-124mph sprint is made in 12.5seconds.

So, do you have a Porsche Panamera Turbo that you feel needs a little jumpstart? If you do then you should definitely give Techart a call. This package is available starting in August.

Have you guys ever heard of a little vehicle called the Porsche 911 GT2 RS? Yeah, we thought so. After posting a Nurburgring time of seven minutes, 18 seconds, the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car that Porsche has ever built is already on every car enthusiast’s lips. As well it should be.

Although it is very well known, Porsche recently took this vehicle to its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Andreas Preuninger, Manager of High Performance Vehicles for Porsche, took a little time out to explain the philosophy for the GT2 RS.

As a reminder, the GT2 RS has a 3.6 liter six-cylinder boxer engine that is boosted by two turbochargers that produce 620hp. The car is also assisted in this power by a weight reduction of 154 lbs. This makes the RS sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 186 mph in 28.9 seconds. Its top speed is 205 mph and its power-to-weight ratio is 4.9 lb per horsepower.

Looks like the German marketing battle royal is getting an unexpected new opponent from the Land of the Rising Sun and one of the aforementioned German automakers didn’t take the campaign particularly well.

You know how Porsche, Audi, and BMW have, at one point or another, taken stabs at each other through a number of marketing campaigns? Well, Nissan did all of them better by blasting all three German brands in one guerilla campaign that, believe it or not, drew the ire of the boys from Stuttgart.

During the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few weeks ago, Nissan came out with a pretty unique guerilla-marketing ploy by emblazoning the sides of a number of its vehicles with the logos of Audi, BMW, and Porsche with matching tally marks across each logo, which presumably meant the number of times a Nissan car beat these brands at the Nurburgring.

Not one to take the taunting lightly, Porsche immediately demanded Nissan to remove their company’s logo from the ad or face the wrath of a copyright infringement lawsuit. On the flip side, Nissan was not one to be deterred. While they did remove Porsche’s logo from the ad, they did replace it with a simple word that you wouldn’t mistake for anything else other than a direct reference to the Stuttgart-based automaker: ‘Porsche’.

We gotta say, Nissan outfoxed Porsche on this one so they might as well emblazon another tally across Porsche’s name there.
