“Land Rover!” What is the first model coming to your head? We bet is not the Freelander, and not even the Range Rover. But for sure is the old, traditional Defender! After all this is a model older than many of us, most likely having the same age of your grandpa, and it is unlikely that at some point in your childhood you didn’t take a short trip in your grandpa’s Ninety (this was Defender’s first name).
Tata Motors decided that a car with 62 years of history needs to go on, and will come with a new generation Defender in 2014. However, the “Defender” name will be dropped, but many of the original car’s looks and values could be used in the final production model. And while the original model has been built on the T5 steel platform chassis, this is much to heavier and it will also be dropped. Instead Land Rover will use the same Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) technology used in the Freelander. According to Land Rover managing director Phil Popham, the new Defender will be adopt a more SUV look and will deliver more off-road power: “We’ll be really tuning up the versatility side and practicality side. That for me is the core of the Defender’s identity.”

The Range Rover Evoque won’t be released out on the market until next year, but it’s already catching a lot of attention from anyone who’s ever caught the car making test rounds on the streets.
This particular white beauty was caught doing the rounds in London a few days ago, and, by goodness, the Evoque is gorgeous. From what we’ve heard, this particular Evoque was out on the road filming a commercial, although if you ask us, we don’t think that releasing an advert for Range Rover’s new pride and joy would be all that needed, especially considering that its launch back in July already drew it a ton of positive feedback.
Then again, there’s nothing wrong with covering your bases, either. And knowing how the brand is trying be aggressive in promoting not only the Evoque, but their entire brand portfolio, we’re not surprised that the fellas over at Land Rover are doing all they can to aggressively bring the Evoque into the public consciousness.
But since this video of still shots is what we have at this point, we’re going to play it as often as we can and wait for the day when the SUV officially goes on sale, at which time, our bank accounts would be ready enough to support the financial blow of scooping one up for ourselves.

Tata Motors Ltd., the owner of Jaguar Land Rover, came away with a nice chunk of change in the first quarter of the automotive fiscal year. Not to mention a healthy climb for its stock.
The company posted a $430 million profit, which helped the stock climb 5.6 percent to a 19-year high, according to Bloomberg. That is nearly twice the amount of profit that analysts – and we use that term loosely – predicted. Sales for the company increased by 64 percent to $5.8 billion.
Jaguar Land Rover played a big role in all this, posting a $370 million profit during the first quarter. Sales increased from 35,947 to 57,153. That sales jump can easily be attributed to their fantastic new cars, including the XF and the XJ.
Tata was even successful with their own car and truck division, as it saw a 48 percent increase to a total of 181,708 vehicles sold, which included 14,779 Nano cars. That growth can be attributed to the strength of India’s economy.

In what can only be described as an aggressive growth strategy by the Jaguar Land Rover Group, Range Rover is rumored to be working hard on introducing another vehicle into an already growing line-up of models for the brand.
It wasn’t that long ago when Range Rover unveiled the new Evoque SUV to the public, joining the Range Rover Sport and signaling a turning point in the company’s direction. Turns out, according to sources, Range Rover may not be done expanding its growing portfolio.
There’s no word yet on what exactly this model is going to be, but from what we’ve heard, it looks like it’s going to be slotted somewhere between the new Evoque SUV and the Range Rover Sport. Earlier this month, we caught wind of a new premium sedan that will be priced between $40,000 and $60,000 that was currently in the works from Tata and Jaguar, but we can only hope that this second rumor is about yet another model to add to their lineup. The more the merrier!
The rapid expansion of the brand is a stark difference from the problems it was facing last year when Tata Motors scooped up the then-beleaguered brand which, at that time, was experiencing plummeting sales and was in dire need of some serious resuscitation.
Now, they’re introducing new models left and right. What a difference a year – and a change in ownership – makes, right?

Last month Land Rover unveiled the official details on the 2011 Range Rover. For 2011 the SUV will get a new LR-TDV8 4.4-liter engine that delivers a total of 313 HP and 700Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox (available only on the 4.4-liter LR-TDV8 models) and has a fuel consumption of 30.1mpg.
Unfortunately, that is where the good news end and the bad news begins. At least for US clients anyway. The new LR-TDV8 engine will not be offered on our side of the pond. Why are we not surprised? Oh, yeah, because nothing cool is ever offered here.
The reason for this news is really quite simple, though. Current US emission laws are equivalent to Euro6 standards, which don’t come in to play in Europe until 2014. Right now, the new TDV8 engine only meets the Euro5 standards. What that means is Land Rover will take advantage of the less strict laws until they absolutely have to adjust the engine. This leads us to Land Rover’s promise. They have promised that the next generation TDV8 set to be launched in 2014-2015 will “very likely to come to the US.” Not a difficult promise to keep since they will have to make the adjustment on the Euro side anyway.
For now, the US will have to settle for getting the top version that sits with a 5.5 liter V8 engine.

After the Range Rover saw its opportunity for a facelift, the Freelander followed suit with a facelift of its own for the 2011 model year. The first image of the car has been revealed thanks to a leaked brochure.
The 2011 Freelander will feature a new front grille similar to the one from the Range Rover, new fog lamps, and new front air intakes. The rear of the vehicle also sees a few changes including a boot handle trim that now extends the full width of the car.
A few changes will also be made under the hood. The 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine will be upgraded and will get the brand’s popular start-stop system. Other rumors suggest that the 2011 LR2 will adopt the front-drive running gear of the Range Rover Evoque, as demand for 2wd SUVs has increased by 14 percent.
The official debut will be made in August at the Moscow Motor Show. Sales will begin in early 2011.

The covers will officially hit the floor tomorrow as Land Rover unveils the new production version of the LRX premium compact mode. The LRX concept was shown in Detroit over two years ago.
Land Rover isn’t giving us many details on the LRX, but they did say that “it will demonstrate its exciting future by showing the all-new compact Range Rover for the first time”. Whatever that means.
The official unveiling party will take place at The Orangery in London at 8:30 BST. The event will also be part of the 40th anniversary celebration for Land Rover.
The English company owned by India’s Tata has yet to announce any details on the LRX, but the power will likely come from a turbocharged four-cylinder. We do know that the LRX will be available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive. There will also be a three-door or a five-door model.
Check back tomorrow, around 3:30 PM EST, for official details on the new LRX.
