We’re curious to know if at any point before the driver of this BMW X5 decided to turn his SUV into a Dukes of Hazzard stunt car did he honestly think that he could successfully complete an airborne barrel roll without doing his car – and himself – any harm.

We’re wondering that because we can’t, for the life of us, comprehend how he could honestly think of pulling it off given the girth of the SUV he was driving. Then again, crazy nut jobs do crazy things and this guy certainly qualifies for somebody who’s got a few loose bolts in his head that certainly need a lot of tightening.

That being said, we still enjoyed watching the video – we do hope the driver didn’t suffer any injuries – only because idiotic stunts like this remind us that performing stunts with your own car usually doesn’t end well for all parties involved.

We haven’t come across anything this hilariously weird in quite some time, and for that, we have to give props to Film Riot.

As the folks behind some wildly entertaining online videos, Film Riot took it upon themselves to promote the new Ford Fiesta in a three-minute commercial that can best be described as ‘different’. Different in a good way or bad way? Well, that’s up to you to decide. But it is funny, in a funky kind of way. They did find success in belting out the Fiesta’s features in a catchy rhyme so we have to give them credit for that.

In any case, it is interesting to point out that Ford is actually a sponsor of Film Riot so it wouldn’t surprise us if the Blue Oval had something to do with this commercial on top of its own campaign to promote their quirky new hatch.

Hey, anything to get some mileage on the news, right? And if that was their rationale, well, consider the battle won. And if you can get away with calling the new Fiesta “so pimping and so sexy”, then that’s an added plus.

Not that we condone swagger-jacking a car even for recreational purposes – we really, really, really don’t – but if you’re going to do it, you might as well do a good job of keeping your face seen by a camera. Better yet, cover your tracks and leave the camera at home.

Apparently, this man doesn’t have that thing we call ‘smarts’ in his little head. Working as a security guard at the Dallas Auto Auction in Dallas, Texas, the now former employee of the dealership decided that it would be a good and fun idea to boost a Corvette ZR1 – one that costs around $111,000 – and take it out for a nice little hooning under the warm Texas sun.

But as it turns out, this security guard, for whatever reason other than it was completely and amazingly stupid, decided to videotape the whole ordeal, complete with footage of himself getting out of the jacked ZR1 with his arms raised like Rocky before doing some pistol-preening in front of the camera. And to add insult to his stupidity, he went ahead and posted the video clip on You Tube where his employers quickly got a hold of the video, fired the employee, and are now on the verge of pressing charges against the security guard.

Once again, way to go to, Mr. Security Guard! You managed to get yourself fired and get arrested for your idiocy.

Security guard hoons a Corvette ZR1 without permission then posts the clip on You Tube for the world to see originally appeared on topspeed.com on Saturday, 4 September 2010 06:00 EST.

Here in the US, we know this car as the Honda Fit, but in other parts of the world, it goes by another moniker; ‘the Honda Jazz’.

In Australia, the Jazz is currently in the middle of a hilarious promotional campaign called ‘Jazz Packing’. It’ hilarious because we watched the set of videos the campaign has released and we couldn’t stop our eyes from getting teary-eyed from all the hysterical laughing.

Basically, the ads were made to show exactly how versatile the Jazz really is. It’s got loads of room on the interior, it’s got 10 cup holders – that’s right, 10! – and it’s a practical ride for just about anybody, even if you’re a bodybuilder, a rapper, a hipster, and, of course, a ninja.

Check out these four hilarious ads and be sure to adhere our warnings that there will be massive loads of skimpy Speedos, “mystical” windows, tied-up pirates, and a reference to Haruki Murakami. We’re not making this stuff up.

More of the hilarity after the jump.

An interesting sculpture by RoboSteel will be getting unveiled at the 2010 MPH The Prestige & Performance Motor Show. This sculpture will be crafted from recycled steel and will be shaped to look like a unique supercar. The sculpture will be unveiled at Earls Court, London, between November 4th-7th, 2010 and at the NEC, Birmingham between November 11th-14th, 2010. At the end of the show the supercar sculpture will be auctioned off in order to raise money for charity.

The ‘alien-like’ supercar of the future will weigh more than 500kg and will be more than one meter tall. Built using thousands of individual parts, the sculpture took approximately750 hours to finish and will be shipped to the UK in four different pieces. When those pieces get to their destination, workers will have to reassemble the sculpture before it goes on display in Earls court.

“This is the first time we’ve used our design concept to create a supercar. The initial design for the car was created by our art designer Toonrama. The RoboSteel concept supercar is based on the complex designs and structures of south Indian temples and the Kirtimukha sculptures that are positioned at the entrance to these temples. Dave Murphy from Dublin Ink has added an Alien theme to a second design drawing. RoboSteel will use both drawings to craft the Alien Supercar and we are really looking forward to this project.”

A man who held a ticket for a chance to win a 2011 Shelby GT500 sold it for $200 to another dude who ended up winning the car. Ridiculous? Yeah.

Unbelievably enough, it’s also true.

In a scene straight out of a Hollywood script, an attendee at this year’s QuakeCon Gaming Festival that was held in Dallas sold a raffle ticket – it was just one of 100, actually – for just $200. Turns out, it didn’t take long for this sale to backfire on the poor attendant.

Moments after thinking that he just swindled $200 from the supposed “schmuck” who purchased it, the latter’s newly-bought raffle ticket was chosen among the 100 tickets, winning him a $50,000 Shelby GT500.

One of the hosts summed up the whole situation perfectly by saying, “He’s (the seller) gonna have some drinks tonight. He’s (the buyer) going home with a Shelby GT500!”

Talk about a broad spectrum of emotions at play. The seller’s probably kicking himself right now and the buyer, well, to say he’s ecstatic is a gross understatement.

If only lunch breaks at work were this fun – okay, maybe not that part about the fake battle royale – then you probably wouldn’t have a hard time selling the benefits of working for your company to prospective employees.

Apparently, this is what the folks over at the Bristol Speedway in Connecticut are trying to tell everyone. While most of us spend our lunch hour sitting in the cramped company pantry and sharing home-cooked meals with our colleagues, these people take “lunch hour” to an entirely different level.

Taking full advantage of their unique workplace, the employees at the Speedway decide that lunch hour is devoted to something that doesn’t involve chowing down on food, but employee racing. Sure, they had to make a video featuring some atrocious acting and not-so-stellar wheel-to-wheel racing – and of course, the “fracas” that ensued in the end – to make their point, but it certainly drives the point to the proverbial checkered flag.

While we can only hope to have as fun a lunch break as these guys in the video are having, we’re not naive enough to believe that that’s what they actually do when their supposed to be stuffing themselves silly of some much-needed chow. But hey, it does make for a good suggestion on your next team-building session, right?

What happens when you drive around in a Mercedes SLS AMG in Switzerland? Well, if you are dumb enough to drive around at speeds of 180mph then what happens next is nothing short of catastrophic. For starters, your speeding ticket will add up to about 3.5 times the value of the car. After that, your car will be confiscated and, of course, your license will be no more.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a hypothetical question. This is actually a very real situation that occurred when a very unlucky, and highly stupid, guy was caught speeding on a Swiss road, A12 between Bern and Lausanne. The road’s speed limit was set at 75mph and the 37 year old driver was going 180mph, in case you forgot already. After a few miles he was pulled over, his car was confiscated, he was taken to the police station, and he was left with a speeding ticket of almost $1 million.

Why such a hefty fine? Well, according to the Swiss traffic offenses penalty system, the amount of money one has to pay for a speeding ticket is calculated in direct relation to the guilty one’s income. We did feel sorry for the guy, but we are sure he had an awesome time putting the pedal to the metal on his SLS AMG so the fine was probably worth it.

We’ve all been there. You’re standing in the line at a gas station and you look up to see that the lottery has been bumped up to some unimaginable number. As the clerk slowly rings up the customer in front of you, you think of all of the things you would be able to buy and accomplish if you were lucky enough to strike it rich. It’s your turn now and you’re feeling a little froggy, so you jump. One lotto ticket please.

Like we said, we’ve all been there. Unfortunately, some of us have been there a lot more times than others and the amount of money that is literally slipping right off your fingertips stacks up as your chances get trimmed down. This is the exact idea that designers Lauren Was and Adam Eckstrom from the Rhode Island School of Design wanted to convey when they took $39,000 worth of lotto tickets and built a Hummer H3. They wanted everyone to see that with the money people have spent on lotto tickets, they could have just saved it up and bought something cool with it.

Their designs don’t just stop at Hummers either. Check out the gallery to see what other things were built using the useless pieces of paper that people paid for. We’re glad they built a Hummer because no one else is going to anymore.

So what is with Japanese automakers and their growing fondness of making fun of their German counterparts these days? Heck, if we knew the answers, we’d tell you. But we don’t, so we might as well just tell you what’s been going on recently.

Last week, Nissan rolled out a hilarious new campaign centered on the Nissan 370Z and how it compares to German sports cars in its segment. The campaign even drew the ire of a number of car brands, most notably Porsche, who thought that their logo shouldn’t have been used in the whole advertising gimmick.

Now, another Japanese car brand has stepped out with its own new ad that continues what Nissan began a week ago: mocking its German counterparts. In this ad, which was released exclusively for the South African market, Lexus takes a few potshots at its competitors who charge an exorbitant amount of money on features – power seating, high powered sound system, reverse camera, voice-controlled navigation, USB and Bluetooth, among others – that, as far as Lexus is concerned, should come as standard for all vehicles.

While the ad doesn’t specifically mention which German brands Lexus is throwing stones at, you should notice that the charts Lexus used to illustrate their point bears striking resemblances to logos that we’re all too familiar with. Nice way to be subtle, fellas.

Apparently, those rich fellas in the Middle East have a sense of humor too.

This postcard-looking thing came from Saud Arabia and illustrates how the son of what we imagine to be a freakishly rich family – yeah, all of us can afford that gold Ferrari 599 GTB – feels a little out of place in his new university in Berlin because he drives the gold 599 GTB whereas his fellow students and teachers only take the train to go to campus.

Hilariously, dear old Daddy replied to his son’s worries by telling the latter that he just deposited $20 million in his account and that the son should stop complaining and just buy his own train.

Sure, it’s only a joke, but if there’s one place where something like this could potentially happen, it’s in that neck of the woods. Only in the Middle East, boys and girls. Only in the Middle East.

NISSAN POKES AT PORSCHE CAYMAN

After hitting Porsche below the belt a few days ago with their controversial advertising stunt, Nissan decided that they weren’t quite finished expressing themselves. Their most recent scathing attack was aimed at their more stable competition, the Audi TT.

With cut throat competition in the sports coupe segment, Nissan has embarked on a serious marketing strategy of winning new European converts. This goal was evident in London, where the Japanese company took an Audi TTS bearing the slogan “More expensive, slower and less powerful than a Nissan 370Z” around the streets of London.
Adding salt to the wound, the branded Audi TT was trailed by another branded Porsche Cayman with the words “I dream of being as fast as a Nissan 370Z”. Talk about being aggressive!

With Nissan’s changing fortunes, the company has been churning award winning vehicles, challenging even the top tier. The company has launched a series of media campaigns highlighting the fact that both sports cars are better in terms of performance yet cost less than their equivalent European rivals. According to Nissan’s marketing director, these campaigns are targeted to alter the perception that only German sports cars are the benchmarks for measuring performance and quality.

With all this rooftop declaration, we are sure you would be interested in the performance of the 370Z in relation to the German trio, so we have included a picture that displays these specs, courtesy of Nissan. Enjoy!

You know when people say that, when given the opportunity, they could do what race car drivers are paid to do? Well, to be honest, driving a race car at insane speeds is easier said than done. In their new ad campaign for the 2011 Impreza WRX STI sedan, Subaru shows us that there’s more to racing than just being a good driver. Skills are definitely important, but equally as vital is mental preparation – something a lot of us can’t begin to comprehend until we’re right smack in the middle of a rampaging race car.

In this ad, the automaker brought in rally driver Dave Mirra to drive the new 305-horsepower WRX STI around and under an overpass with random people sitting in the passenger seat.

Think you guys would have fared better than these folks? We applaud your bravado, but to be honest, we highly doubt it.

Check out these five 30-second ads, which Subaru has ingeniously called ‘Get More Gs’, and we’re pretty sure that you’d be having the same reactions as these unsuspecting folks.

How much do you usually pay for a car wash? A few bucks right? Well how about paying 8200 euro (around $10,000) to get your ride squeaky clean? If you are from the UK and drive a luxury sports car, then you will have the chance to enjoy the services offered by Gurcharn Sahota, the owner of this overly priced car wash. And, oh yeah, you will have to wait 250 hours for the job to be done.

You don’t have to worry as the company will treat your car with all of the respect it deserves! As part of the cleaning job a computerised microscope – normally used by forensic scientists – is used to examine the body work for the most inconspicuous scratch not even visible to the naked eye.

The guy behind this company has already cleaned cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo, Bugatti Veyron, and an orange McLaren F1 GTR worth $7.5 million. We guess having a pricey car wash really pays!

If you are in the New Brunswick area from July 30th to Aug 15th, then you might want to check out a little play that might piqué the interest of car enthusiasts everywhere. Okay, everywhere is a little bit of an exaggeration, but some people might be interested. The Playhouse in Fredericton, New Brunswick is proud to bring its people, “The Bricklin”. Sound familiar? It should.

The Bricklin Safety Vehicle-1was a safety car built in New Brunswick, Canada from 1974-1976. It was created by Malcolm Bricklin, an American millionaire with apparently had nothing better to do with his time. Although Bricklin’s goal was to build a safe and economical sports car, what he ended up doing was building a car that was safe, but way too heavy. Inevitably, he got in way over his head and ended up costing the New Brunswick government tons of money.

The story was just too good to pass up and so this little tale was turned into a musical. Yes, you read that right. It is now a musical. Tim Yerxa, the Playhouse’s executive director, says they were going for a “cabaret-meets-disco-meets-car-show vibe.” Insert chuckle here.

The story obviously includes Malcolm Bricklin and his “enthusiastic backer,” Richard Hatfield as the story tells how these two chaps acquired the money needed to start and continue this venture for the measly numbers of years it was kept alive. The playwright even managed to slip in a love story while he was at it.

The biggest character in the show is a safety orange SV-1 whose gull-wing doors and headlights are supposedly set to operate during the show. Good luck with that, fellas. Way to put a funny spin on a major catastrophe.

We rarely see two teammates in Formula One – and two former world champions at that – have a good time around each other and make it all seem so genuine. We learned that firsthand from the failed Lewis Hamilton-Fernando Alonso fiasco a few years back that pretty much divided McLaren Mercedes in half.

But now that the team has two chaps that have an unabashed chemistry, McLaren’s principal sponsor, Vodafone, isn’t wasting the opportunity to put both Hamilton and teammate Jenson Button in front of a camera for a number of short documentaries to highlight their growing number of escapades.

The latest mini-documentary to be released by McLaren takes the antics of Lewis and Jenson out on the road on-board a 1966 Volkswagen Camper. The new spot featuring both drivers takes the two on a nice little drive to Silverstone where they do, among other things, stop over at a gas station to get their tanks filled, buy as many chocolate candies they could get their hands on, sign as many autographs as they can, and even give away free tickets for the Silverstone Grand Prix.

Check out these two fellas as they make their way over to Silverstone in an unconventional way.

In the show that takes lunacy and awesomeness and fuses them together to create things that are out-of-this-world comes yet another creation that’s definitely not suited for road use.

We’ve all seen Rob Dyrdrek’s ingenious show ‘Fantasy Factory’ perform some wicked stunts over the years, but never have we seen anything remotely close to what they’re about to do. And the best part is they have even invited Vaughn Gittin Jr. to join in on the fun.

The two are teaming up for an episode of Fantasy Factories, which will take a 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 and modify it for a nice run along a skate park, complete, naturally, with ramps, rails, and just about anything you’ll find in the daredevil location.

This video is just a teaser of what’s to come on the show, and judging from what it’s already showing, we figure that there’s more – a whole lot more – where that came from.

We guess that there’s no doubt which team this Audi R8 owner has been rooting for during the FIFA World Cup. And even if the Oracle of Oberhausen (an octopus by the way) predicted that Spain will win the Cup and Spain has already beaten Germany in the semifinals, this guy seems to be keeping his fanaticism rooted in Germany. The car even displays 2010 as a winning year for Germany along with their previous wins in 1954, 1974, and 1990. This guy has to live with his incorrect assumptions until his next trip to the shop!

However, leaving that aside, you have to admit the car looks quite impressive! The black, red, and yellow combination look quite good and the black rims complete the package in a sleek, finished way! Passion is a strange thing; it can lead to some pretty unique and cool designs.

The first episode of Top Gear’s 15th season was made memorable because of James May’s escapades on that Icelandic volcano whose name is so utterly difficult to pronounce that we won’t even bother to spell it here.

(Eyjafjallajökull. That’s the name. Journalistic integrity got the better of us.)

Unfortunately for us, the whole trek to the mouth of the volcano had to be cut short due to time-constraints on the show. So, to appease our clamoring for more scenes of May’s trip, they’ve released video outtakes on their website, much to our delight.

In this video, May ends up cooking lamb chops using the volcanic ash and lava spewed by the volcano as his version of charcoal. To our surprise, the lamb chops really did get a good cooking, although we probably wouldn’t be caught dead eating a piece of that, unless of course, dying is what we’re after. In that case, we’d gladly take a bite out of that lava-cooked piece of grade-A meat.
