Chevrolet Camaro by IVS
We saw the American tuners at Innovative Vehicle Solutions, last year at SEMA with their Havoc Chevrolet Camaro. However the boys at IVS have just revealed a few more details about the body kit that adds a bit of extra muscle to the very popular 21st century pony car as well as a couple of engine upgrades as well. The exterior of the IVS Camaro comes complete with a new front bumper complete with a larger air dam and a lower hanging front valence, side skirts and an aggressive rear spoiler. However the trick parts come in the form of a dual element rear diffuser and a set of interesting 20 inch rollers and a set of classic hockey stripes running the length of either side of the Camaro ensuring its status as a bona fide muscle car. However the part we are still waiting to hear about are the blowers that will be going under the hood.
Stay tuned for more details.

Video: Chevy Equinox undergoes smoke and ping-pong test
And you thought that working for Chevrolet isn’t cool.
The folks from Chevy recently released their inaugural Department 180 video, a new ‘mini-series type video wherein the folks from Chevy put their cars to the test in a series wildly amusing tests. The first one vehicle that is being featured in the pilot episode is the 2010 Chevy Equinox.
In the video, Department 180 engineers try to show-off the Equinox’s improved quality and space through a smoke test and a ping-pong test. In the smoke test, the engineers fill up the Equinox’s cabin with a cloud of smoke to show just how sealed off the Equinox is.
After proving the Equinox’s worth with the smoke test, the engineers then decide to try their luck in figuring out just how many ping-pong balls can fit inside the mid-sized crossover’s cabin. We don’t know if the results were rigged or it was unintentionally bloated but according to the trustworthy folks of Chevy, the Equinox’s cabin space has room for over 70,000 ping-pong balls.
Check out the video and see how Chevy’s new ‘Department 180’ was able to achieve their results.

Corvette C7 rendered by avarvarii
Bowtie fans can rejoice that General Motors has no plans to cancel America’s favorite sports car any time in the near future. Previous reports have said that the seventh generation of the sports car was put on hold until 2014, but we now know that the upcoming C7 Corvette will go into production in April of 2012 and then go on sale in the 2013 model year. While some have speculated that the next generation Corvette will be smaller than the current car and make extensive use of lightweight composite materials in the hopes of reducing curb weight creating a more efficient high performance sports car.
While you might have seen the sleek Stingray concept in the big screen blockbuster Transformers 2 full of cues from a bygone era like the split rear window that dates back to the original 1963 Stingray Corvette, this rendering brings everything we hope to see in the C7 to life in a neat little yellow package, and while the concept clearly shines through, there are enough real world touches to make the future Vette look like it could be a genuine production car.

900 hp Chevrolet Camaro Pontiac Trans Am
The Pontiac Trans Am is a car that made history. So is no surprise people want it back. And while Pontiac has no chance to revive the name, there are tuners out there who found solutions for that. For example Gearhead Performance Group (GPG) took a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and transformed it into a Trans Am.
Their car is powered by a 6.2 liter twin turbo LS9 engine, that delivers a total of 900 hp. The engine is mated to a 6 speed transmission with hardened gears and drive axle. Besides that it gets custom suspensions and functional fender vents for brake heat reduction, it is lowered 1″ in the front and 2″ in the rear and sits on 22″ custom wheels (snowflake available).

Video: Chevy Volt goes through a Solar Heat Test
By now you would’ve figured that General Motors would go through great lengths to promote the mettle of the Chevrolet Volt. Having previously done a water trough test, GM decided that maybe the Volt should be subjected to yet another test, this time, of the scorching variety.
To ensure that any part of the Volt would not be subjected to warping or sagging when exposed into hot weather, GM turned up the knob on the old pressure cooker to see just how the Volt handles being in the figurative spotlight.
In this video, the Volt is being given a solar heat test, with temperatures reaching as high as 200 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don’t know your conversions, 200 degrees Fahrenheit is twice as hot as the boiling point so you can be rest assured that if there’s any part of the car that couldn’t stand the heat, this test would show it.

GM Performance Parts offers a Camaro for any occasion
As we were perusing the Internet the other day, for car related reasons of course, we came across a very interesting post on Craig’s List that proves the second coming of the muscle car is still going strong. Chrysler’s in house high performance specialists will sell racers a Hemi powered Mopar Drag Pack Challenger that is good for 10 second quarter mile runs and the blue oval has brought back a purpose built Ford Racing Boss 302R Mustang ready for Grand-Am road racing with a 21st century 5.0 Liter V8 under the hood that promises to deliver some pretty fast laps. However bowtie enthusiasts will be happy to hear that GM Performance Parts is offering the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro as an off highway body in white blank canvas for race teams to drape over the chassis of their choice before packing up the trailer and heading out for whatever series they want to compete in, starting at only $7,000.
The benefit of this approach is that not only will racers be able to practice whatever discipline they desire, but also the bare metal body shell is a much better start for a purpose built racecar. The special order GM Performance Part means that crews will not have to waste any time tearing down the vehicle in order to strip as much weight as possible, in fact the only way to make a steel bodied 2010 Camaro weigh less would be to Swiss cheese one of these things. Offering the perfect start for anyone who is serious about going racing, the bare body means that the car can be custom built to whatever specifications are necessary, with everything from the engine and suspension to the rear end being up to the builder. Luckily GM also offers every conceivable component to fill those empty bolt holes from big blocks ready for drag racing to high performance trannys built to take the abuse. It’s the little things like these that our dreams are made of and makes us proud to be in America.
