Remember that Corvette Stingray Concept Speedster that was spotted about a week ago in, of all places, Beverly Hills?
Turns out, our hunch was right. As at home as the car may be in one of the world’s most expensive neighborhoods, the Corvette Stingray Concept wasn’t in the area because someone owns it and decided to park it there. Nope. It was there for an entirely different purpose.
You see, the Corvette Stingray Concept was featured in the movie Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen - as Autobot Sideswipe - a few years ago. And with rumors running rampant that Sideswipe would be "freshened up" for Transformers 3, it was easy to put two and two together. With the third movie currently in production and filming in the area, it wasn’t that hard to figure out that this Corvette Stingray Concept Speedster just may be the new Sideswipe in the movie.
Then this video came out and everything can now be laid to rest. Need any more proof? Watch the video and take a look for yourself.

The Corvette Stingray Concept was featured in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and then unveiled at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. However that was a coupe model which is like the vehicle spotted in Beverly Hills recently. Of course, Beverly Hills had the chance to see a Speedster version of the 50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept parked in the area. And since GM has said absolutely nothing about a Speedster version we can only assume that this is the work of a tuning firm.
Compared to the standard Stingray concept, the Speedster version features - besides missing the top - a different hood with dual openings in the front, no LED vertical headlights – a more conventional lighting system appears tucked into the front recesses, different wheels, and a different front grille.
However, there might be another explanation for this strange sight. We have to consider the fact that since Transformers 3 is in the works, it might be possible the Speedster version was specially developed for the movie. Or could this be the 2014 Corvette? Don’t worry, we’re kidding!

General Motors’ quick and sudden move to give Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Gallaraga a Chevrolet Corvette convertible cost them $53,000. However, despite giving away the car for nary a penny, GM is still all smiles about the whole thing.
Proving that they’re also shrewd businessmen, General Motors made a calculated decision of giving Gallaraga the Corvette, not just because they wanted to reward the man who lost out on a perfect game because of an errant call by an umpire, but also because they thought that by doing so, the media mileage behind that story would’ve made everything worth it. Turns out, the gamble paid off. Big time.
According to Joyce Julis & Associates, a Michigan-based firm that deals with stuff involving sponsorships and their public reach, GM’s give-away of the Corvette to Gallaraga netted them a ton of media coverage, thanks in large part to how big the whole story became. JJ&A estimates that the media mileage GM received was equivalent to that of $9 million, which in case you’re wondering is a far cry from the $53,000 Corvette they gave away.
That was some grade A, top notch business sense.

Days after we showed you photos of a mangled Dodge Viper that was the recipient of a tornado, we have yet another sports car that fell victim to another twister. Somebody better start building shelters for these poor cars.
This particular Corvette ZR1, which, by the way, cost the owner $120,000 to purchase has been reduced to nothing more than a $19,600 piece of wreck. As to what kind of catastrophe gave this Corvette ZR1 a smackdown of a lifetime? Yep. Another tornado in Texas.
If there is a silver lining to what was once a ZR1, it’s that some parts of the car, especially the 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V8 engine, appears to have been undamaged so the owner can probably still fetch something out of his dilapidated sports car. Hey, it’s better than nothing, right?

A good story seems incomplete without a background tale of how things got to where they stand in the present. That’s how it’s always been because without looking at where you came from, people won’t understand how you got here. In the case of the Corvette Racing Team, that history goes all the way back to where it all began 50 years ago at Le Mans.
In the fifth episode of the the CRT’s "Track to Street" series, we take a behind-the-scenes look at the history of the team, complete with a detailed chronicle of the Corvette’s evolution, in addition to a number of interviews given by key personalities involved with the team - both past and present - including legendary drivers Dick Thompson and Dick Guldstrand and current team Ambassador, Ron Fellows.
It’s, by far, our favorite episode of the "Track to Street" series and is something that we strongly recommend as a must-watch episode.
