Need for Speed Shift is getting seven extraordinary cars added to the lineup as the new Exotic Racing Series pack comes out on March 18, 2010. These seven new cars can be driven on the new Riviera track that hosts 4 unique layouts, daring corners, and multiple blazing straight-aways. It doesn’t end there…EA has also added over 50 exciting new events to let the user revel in these fine automobiles. The Exotic Racing Series pack is available for both the Playstation 3 and the XBOX 360 for only $10.00. I’m sorry PC gamers, but the new Exotic Racing Series pack will not be available for your PC.

In terms of overall playability, the Need For Speed Shift is as good as Microsoft’s Forza 3 and probably that of Gran Turismo 5. But while the other two games are the ones that draw all the attention, NFS Shift is slowly but surely gaining some ground on its aforementioned competitors.

But if you’ve played NFS Shift, you’re going to notice that a particular car brand is noticeably missing from the roster of cars available in the game. Fret no more because Need For Speed Shift will finally make Ferraris available through a downloadable pack that should be made available on Xbox Live on February 16.

Among the Ferraris included in this new DC are the FXX, F50 GT, 599 GTB Fiorano, California, 575 Superamerica and five variants of the F430: Spider, Scuderia, 16M Scuderia Spider, Challenge and GTC.

In addition to having your own Ferraris, the DC also comes with 46 special challenges uniquely created for just Ferrari, including eliminators, endurance races, hot laps, and a world tour.

Downloading these Ferraris to your game will cost you $10, or if you’ve saved yourself enough Microsoft Points, you can get them for a pauper’s price of just 800 points.

BBC – yes, that BBC – is venturing into the video game industry with a few games planned for the iPhone, the Nintendo DS, and the Nintendo Wii. One title that’s being considered to make an appearance on these platforms is the network’s top-rated auto magazine show, Top Gear.

Reports are still scarce as of the moment but according to Neil Ross Russell, Managing Director for BBC Worldwide, the arm that handles BBC’s commercial endeavours, said that the network is “open to conversations in games about all kinds of business models.” In addition to the Nintendo platforms, BBC is also looking into producing games for the iPhone and Facebook, two platforms that have recently been a goldmine for game developers.

The hiring of former senior EA games executive, Rober Nashak, to head up its digital entertainment division is a step in the right direction for BBC, which is hoping that having Nashak on-board will help the network successfully break into the video game industry.

In what is becoming to sound like a broken record, Sony has once again found a way to delay the release of Gran Turismo 5.

This time, the postponed came as a result of “production-related matters”, further delaying a game that the public has been demanding for a long time.

By this time, we’re getting used to Sony’s continuous delaying tactics for the game, but truth be told, our patience is wearing a little thin. It’s one thing to do it once, but to repeatedly push back the release date for a game that seems to take forever to develop is getting a little bit ridiculous.

And just to add more insult to injury, the new release date is still to be determined.

At this point, we’re not holding our breaths anymore.

The Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge was first announced back on December 3, and the contest got underway last thursday on December 17th and will continue on into next year ending on January 25, 2010. Players can download the special demo directly to their PlayStation 3 video game consoles via the PlayStation Network and start logging laps at one of the U.S.’s most famous race tracks for the chance to attend the big race that will take place their next May.

The Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge allows gamers the opportunity to get behind the wheel of both a showroom stock and tuner transformed Nissan 370Z and essentially compete in a virtual time attack battle on the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s infield road course layout. The player who can clock the quickest combined lap time for both time trials will win a VIP package to the brickyard so that they can witness the 2010 Indy 500 in person. Keeping things competitive on either side of the border, one winner chosen from the U.S. and the other from Canada. In addition to the two fastest entrants, five runner ups in the US and five from Canada will receive a voucher code so that they can get their own version of Gran Turismo for the PSP when it finally arrives in stores. If there was ever an excuse to play Gran Turismo for hours on end, this is it.

Spike TV’s annual Video Game Awards is set to take place on December 12 and as you can expect, one of the most hotly-contested categories is that of the year’s best driving game.

After what we could imagine as months of deliberation and thousands of hours playing these games, Spike has whittled the contenders down to four games: Gran Turismo PSP, Forza 3, Need for Speed: Shift, and DiRT 2.

We have to admit that it’s a little tough to pick out a winner especially since we’ve spent an inordinate amount of time playing – and enjoying – all of these games so deciding on the best one is like choosing who your favorite kid is. Not easy, right?

Fortunately – or unfortunately, depending on your perspective – the notable absence of Gran Turismo 5 has made the inevitable choice a tad less difficult. But then again, we really wouldn’t know because GT5, for all of the hype and posturing, hasn’t been released yet.

At the end of the day, we’re going to have to come up with our own vote, but suffice to say, we probably wouldn’t cast it until a few hours before the deadline passes.

There’s something innately kooky about being an contemporary artist. For the most part, a lot of these people have come with the weirdest and most oddly-sighted creations known to man.

Take Garnet Hertz, for instance. He calls himself a contemporary artist and his latest creation is definitely more than just ‘contemporary’. What he did was take a Sega Outrun arcade game and fused it with a three-wheeled scooter to create – yes, you guessed it – a drivable arcade game.

To spice up his new creation, Herntz also added an iPhone and a customized GPS software in his creation. What for, you ask? To the best of our rationalizing capabilities, the GPS software finds the vanishing point of the road ahead and, with the use of Google Maps, puts the game’s Testarossa into a live-action setting.

According to Herntz himself, the whole project was born out of two concepts: Un-Simulation of Driving and GPS Navigation Parallax & Mixed Reality.

You’re playing a racing game and you’re beating all challengers that come your way. In the middle of you dominant run, you start thinking to yourself, ‘hey, I can totally do this in real life and make everyone eat my dust’.

Well, for better or for worse, sometimes you get what you ask for.

This is what a couple of Need for Speed gamers found themselves in after being picked by Ford’s Mustang 10 Unleashed to unleash to burn rubber on a real race track. After hosting a tournament that featured the best Need for Speed players in the world, the four gamers who came out on top were treated with a very special prize: racing a real 2010 Ford Mustang.

But before being exposed to the world of real car racing, the four gamers were taught at the Fast lane Racing School about the nuances of real car racing – and not those that they’ve dominated on the video game circuit. After their crash course, the four gamers were then put the test against the 2010 Mustang.

Just in case the wait for Gran Turismo 5 has left you chomping your nails in anticipation, it’s always a good idea to remember just what you’re waiting for. These new screenshots of the game come in 18 megapixels, which, if you don’t know, is as crisp as it can get.

The realism is uncanny, even for our pretty lofty standards, and seeing these photos does beg the question: how much longer do we have to wait?
