The holy grail of speed has always been the production car speed record. Car companies shoot for this record – if they can – in hopes that they can put their names in the history books. Some of them have succeeded and some have failed, but either way, these machines are fantastic.
Most of the cars on the list are very expensive and only built in limited numbers. You would be hard pressed to find any one of the top ten machines on normal streets. Hell, you would be hard pressed to find these cars on local tracks.
In order to get on the list, the car must be street legal, so no Formula One cars or land speed machines. The laws for getting on the list are also very tough, as there are no set rules. Nonetheless, the current fastest production car hit a speed of 267 miles per hour. Can you guess which car that was?

When you get into this category, it’s hard to say if one is better than the other. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and McLaren are all wonderful products, but is one better than the other one in the real world? Probably not, but there are a few things we can look at to try and determine a solid list.
When you have this kind of money, performance is expected out of these machines and that is a key thing to remember. Every car on this list is fast enough for most people. Many will begin to point out numbers and statistics to prove that their car should be ranked higher up. What they fail to understand is that most of the people who buy these machines will never get close to those numbers. For them, it’s more about the car. With that in mind, we will look at styling, prestige, luxury, and the sensations that you get when you sit behind the wheel.
There is a never a right answer when comparing these machines. Everybody has their own opinion and everybody will think they’re correct. We really had to think about this one long and hard because, well, we had no idea how to rank most of these machines. The top ten supercars for 2010 is just one of life’s great mysteries.
Nonetheless, we persevered on your behalf to try and rank today’s best supercars. We would also like to point out price was not considered in this ranking. If you can afford any one of these cars, most of the time price isn’t going to be a big deal.

At the end of 2009, Parmigiani unveiled the Bugatti Tourbillon Watch inspired by the 16 C Galibier concept. This particular watch could be used as a wristwatch, a pocket watch, or could even be mounted on the dash of the owner’s Bugatti. Pretty classy, huh? Well, it seems that Parmigiani are at it again ,and this time they have unveiled a new watch inspired by the latest Veyron Super Sport. This doesn’t necessarily surprise us considering the Bugatti is a record-breaking machine that deserves a timepiece modeled after it, but they better get it produced soon as the sizzle might fizzle once the Koenigsegg Agera completes its task of breaking the Bugatti’s record.
But back to the timepiece. Parmigiani has played with the shape of this watch to make it as exclusive and daring as the Veyron SuperSport itself. The watch has a partially carbon fiber dial that has been placed perpendicular to the display axis with the use of a double pinion with bevel gearing system. This sytem setup allows for a 90 degree angle transfer of energy. This world premier technology allows the time to be displayed on the side of the timepiece.
In terms of aesthetic design, the train wheels are cut in the shape of car wheels and the plate and 10 bridges are designed and decorated in line with Parmigiani’s exclusive criteria as seen on the Calibre 370. The movement of the watch is displayed through six sapphire crystals. As for the hands, applique indexes, and counter; these components are displayed in the exact shade of orange picked out for the record-breaking SuperSport.

A couple of weeks ago, Bugatti made a worthwhile statement with their Veyron SS speed monster. This beast was capable of hitting an average top speed of 267mph, effectively placing it in the Guinness Book of Records. Koenigsegg wasn’t just going to sit back and let Bugatti take all of the glory, so they prepared their new Agera hypercar to effectively beat the Veyron Super sports’ top speed. And who better to test it than the men of Top Gear.
The man behind the Agera super car, Christian von Koenigsegg, isn’t a man to be reckoned with. He’s one of the few people who have both the will and the means to silence Bugatti of its record-topping Veyron SS. According reliable reports, his aim is to do just that, and his new Agera is just the machine to do it.
Coincidentally, it was the men of Top Gear who first gave the news of the Bugatti’s record to Koenigsegg, even though the feat was still supposed to be kept under wraps. Upon hearing the news, Koenigsegg immediately began thinking out loud of places he could test his new supercar.

Location: Miami, Florida. Movie star: Bugatti Veyron. The happy owner: Birdman.
Let’s start at the beginning. For those of you who do not know, Birdman is an American rapper and record executive from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is the co-founder of Cash Money Records and one half of the duo, Big Tymers. Needless to say, money is not a problem for them. So spending $2 million on buying a red Bugatti Veyron is not as impressive as it might sound. For him at least!
And if you still need a reminder, the Bugatti Veyron supercar is powered by a quad-turbocharged W16 engine with a maximum output of 1001 horsepower and 1250 Nm of torque. It can hit a top speed of 252.3 mph. With all of that power, don’t be surprised if our next report on Birdman involves a very hefty speeding ticket! Thank goodness the States don’t price out tickets in accordance with your salary like they do in Switzerland!

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport shook the auto industry off its hinges when it debuted a couple of weeks ago and, in seemingly pedestrian fashion, proceeded to set the world speed record by clocking 268 mph at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessein track in Germany.
Not that we’re surprised by how fast the souped-up Veyron is – it’ a Bugatti, after all – but it was how it came out out nowhere and just grabbed the world’s attention in one fell swoop.
Now that it’s become the talk of the auto world, the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport has been getting its fair share of fans, all of which have been looking for the perfect opportunity to see the 1,200 horsepower beast up close and personal. Fortunately, the boys from Diariomotor chanced upon the golden goose when it was being tested somewhere in Spain and joined by two seemingly irrelevant standard Veyrons that completely lost their appeal when in the company of the record-setting 16.4 Super Sport.
Bugatti’s new supercar, which boasts of an 8.0-liter W16 engine that comes with four enlarged turbochargers and super-size intercoolers producing 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 lb/ft of torque, will head over to the production block later this year where a limited number of models will be produced for those rich enough to afford it.

Oh the beautiful sounds of a car’s engine as it hums its way around a track. Nothing can beat that sound, not even the tires screeching as they make their way around the bend. Unfortunately, when The Stig took the Bugatti Veyron SS out for a spin on the Top Gear track, the sounds coming from the engine were barely audible as the beautifully fast supercar was given the opportunity to show just how miraculous its capabilities are.
The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport comes with a 16-cylinder engine that has four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers to offer up a total of 1200hp. The chassis was completely redesigned to handle such speeds by the use of a raised main-spring travel, stronger stabilizers, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture originally developed for racing cars. With lateral acceleration of up to 1.4 G and improved interaction between the tires and the intelligent all-wheel drive system, the Super Sport offers perfect handling and even more powerful acceleration of 1,500 NM on corner exits.
The Bugatti has already achieved top Guiness Book honors by hitting an average top speed of 267.81 miles per hour, but how did it fare on the Top Gear track? Will it take the throne as the fastest or will it just fall short? Only one way to find out…

The auto industry was turned upside its head a few weeks ago when, from out of nowhere, the land speed record was eviscerated by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports after it posted a record time of 267.81 mph.
Shortly after the breaking news, reports began circulating that Top Gear may have been involved in the Veyron Super Sports’ record-breaking achievement. And while a lot of people shrugged at the notion of Top Gear playing a part in the whole spectacle, it turns out that while they weren’t directly involved in the land speed record attempt, one member of the show’s triumvirate got his chance behind the wheel of the supercar and set his own personal land speed record.
And wouldn’t you know it, that host turned out to be none other than ‘Captain Slow’ himself, James May. Ironic as the nickname sounds – and it’s a justifiable tag considering May’s not exactly known as a speed demon – James’ personal record of 259.11 mph, which he set at the Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany, is most definitely need for speed material.
Details behind May’s time with the Veyron Super Sports are still being kept under wraps although you can expect it to be featured prominently in the August issue of Top Gear’s magazine, which is expected to hit news stands in the coming days.

Bugatti has unveiled the first teaser video of their brand new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport that has recently become the fastest production car in the world.
The new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport comes with four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers that have been used to boost the power of the 16-cylinder engine to a total of 1200 HP and 1,500 NM of torque, the chassis has been extensively redesigned to maintain safety at extreme speeds – thanks to a slightly raised main-spring travel, stronger stabilizers, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture originally developed for racing cars. Thesupercar has entered the Guinness Book of Records with an average top speed of 431 km/h (267 mph). The first five units will be sold as limited “World Record Editions” and will feature a special black exposed carbon and orange finish.

While everyone is waiting for the official debut of the future Veyron SuperSport, what appears to be the first image of the supercar has already leaked onto the internet. Big surprise there, right? The car will be limited to only 30 units, carrying a price tag of $2 million (it appears that the previous rumors about a $2.4 million price were false). Bugatti will also offer a naked carbon fiber body option that will add another 100,000 euro ($122,000 at the current rates) to the car’s price. This image clearly shows that the Supersport has received a minor nose job elongating the front of the car just a bit in comparison to the Bugatti Veyron in addition to the minor tweaks here and there.
The future Veyron SuperSport will be powered by the same 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbocharged engine tuned to deliver a total of 1200 HP. With a weight reduction of 100 kilos, the supercar will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds and will be able to hit a top speed of 264 mph.
The official debut will be made in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. We can’t wait to see this car up close and personal. It looks absolutely amazing!

A few weeks ago, rumors started flying about a SuperSport version for the Bugatti Veyron. Those rumors turned out to be true as the company officially confirmed the model shortly thereafter. Now it seems we will be getting fast and ready information concerning the new SuperSport with the vehicle’s price being announced.
While everyone expected the Bugatti to be priced at $2 million, the car in fact will be priced at €1,950,000 ($2.4 million at the current exchange rates). The official debut will be made in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This will be the final Veyron edition before going out of production.
The future Veyron SuperSport will be powered by the same 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbocharged engine tuned to deliver a total of 1200 HP. With a weight reduction of 100 kilos, the supercar will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds and will be able to hit a top speed of 264 mph.
It will get a new front, roof, and rear and will use light materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum. There will only be 30 units built.

Remember those rumors about a more powerful version of the current Veyron? Turns out these are not just rumors! According to Cars UK, they have received an official confirmation from a Bugatti customer who has already placed a €400k advance for the new model.
The new Bugatti Veyron SuperSport will be limited to only 30 units, each priced at €1,650,000 (or $2 million at the current rates). This edition will be the last version of the Veyron supercar before it goes out of production. The official debut will be made at Pebble Beach in August. Deliveries will begin at the end of the year.
With a total output of 1200 HP and a weight reduction of 300 kilos, the new Veyron Supersport will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 2.2 seconds and will be able to hit a top speed of 264 mph. The same customer also confirmed that the new model will feature a few exterior changes. We can’t wait to see the final product!

A few weeks ago we reported that Bugatti was preparing a new model that would develop around 1200 HP. Well, we were somewhat wrong. Apparently, the model that will be delivering that killer horsepower is not a new model, but a more powerful version of the current Veyron. It will be called the Supersport and will rev the horsepower race to a whole new level.
With a total output of 1200 HP and a weight reduction of 300 kilos, the new Veyron Supersport will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 2.2 seconds and will be able to hit a top speed of 264 mph.
There will only be 30 units built and, as you might have guessed, it will cost more than the Bugatti Veyron. Its official debut is expected to be made in September at the Paris Auto Show. So after that, expect 30 very fast cars to be parading their way quickly around our streets.
