After a first “unveiling” video of the BMW 1-Series M Coupe, the guys from Bimmerfile have rendered the future car, and we have to admit it looks quite impressive. In fact the rendering only puts together parts from the recently launched video.

The 1-series M will probably follow along the engine lines of the 135i producing 306hp. It will feature a central duct, brake air ducts, an additional two ducts on the bonnet, two air intakes on the front wings for a typical M look, and the bar that incorporates the side indicator light. It will also have widened fenders, integrated duckbill trunk spoiler, upgraded M wheels, and large brakes with cross-drilled rotors. And how about a a carbon fiber roof ? Is this too much for an entry-level M car? We think not!

Well, we can’t see all of it, but at least we can see more of the BMW 1-Series M coupe than those heavily camouflaged spy shots we’ve seen until now. Granted, we have been able to see the BMW on the race track through a video released by BMW, but now we can see the first shapes and colors of the coupe courtesy of m-power.com. You’ll see the next part of the unveiling-series at the M-Power.com closed room.

The 1-series M will probably follow along the engine lines of the 135i producing 306hp. It will feature a central duct, brake air ducts, an additional two ducts on the bonnet, two air intakes on the front wings for a typical M look, and the bar that incorporates the side indicator light. There are rumors saying BMW will offer the first official details on the 1-Series M coupe this evening, so stay tuned!

Patiently waiting for the next generation BMW 1-Series to debut, we know we probably won’t be seeing it over on this side of the pond. However, that won’t stop us from taking notice of the interesting changes the BMW will undergo.

The first, and most obvious changes, will appear on the exterior of the vehicle. Well, we probably shouldn’t say “most obvious” considering the redesigned bodystyle is anything, but extravagant. The biggest changes will be made under the hood as BMW will be offering a wide range of engines, including turbo-petrol engines with three or four cylinders. However, the BMW 1-Series will remain a RWD vehicle built on the same L7 platform as the 3-Series.

The entry level models will get 1.2 and 1.5 liter engines with power outputs ranging from 70 to 184 HP. Next to it there will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 204 HP and 238 HP and a range of three-cylinder engines with outputs ranging from 95 to 177 HP. The top version will still get the six-cylinder N55 Twin-Scroll engine.

The first hatchback version will be revealed in early 2011, and it will be followed by both coupe and convertible versions.

With the announcement of Infiniti’s new performance line and the debut of their 2 M-based models coming up at the Pebble Beach Concours, it probably wasn’t a bad idea for BMW to release a video about their Performance line. There’s always room for a little refresher when competition is brewing.

BMW’s Performance line is available for models like the 1-Series, the 3-Series, the X5, and the X6. It includes hand-crafted carbon components, a lightweight sports silencer, front bumper, side-sills, and an insert for the rear bumper; all in a special design and body color. The Performance line also includes a rear spoiler, rear fins in matte black, and a front grid finished in high-gloss black paint. Finishing off the line are a set of 21″ light-alloy wheels.

For models like the BMW M3, the Performance Package includes a lowered suspension that brings the chassis 10 mm closer to the asphalt and stiffens things up with a newly developed set of electronically adjustable dampers as well as an all new set of lightweight mesh alloys measuring 19 inches in diameter. These alloys help dress up the new M3’s appearance along with the functional aero package.

Every time we see Chris Harris inside a car, we can’t help but wonder how this dude managed to score a job like that. Not only does he get to drive some of the fastest and most beautiful cars on the planet, but he also gets paid to do it. Can’t say that he hates his job, can he?

This time, during the launch of the BMW M3 GTS at the Ascari race track in Spain, Harris, together with a number of other surprised auto journalists, was given a treat of a lifetime by being given a chance to ride shotgun with Frank Isenberg, BMW Driver Training’s top dog on board a prototype version of the new BMW 1M Coupe. This particular BMW is an off-shoot 1-Series that traces its direct lineage to the Bavarian automaker’s M line of sports cars.

During Harris’ turn in the passenger seat, he tried to coax Isenberg to divulge the specifications under the 1M’s hood to which Isenberg expertly deflected the question by saying, “Listen to it.” Nevermind that Harris and the rest of the auto scribes weren’t given the full lowdown on the car because most of them seem to think that the 1M Coupe is being powered by an N54 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six engine that produces about 340 horsepower.

One thing we do know after watching this video: Chris Harris is a lot more talkative when he’s behind the wheel of a car than when he was riding shotgun. But the man still knows his cars and most of his observations while Isenberg was driving the camouflaged 1M Coupe were spot-on.

BMW has unveiled the first video of the future 1-Series M Coupe. Of course, the video does not show much of the vehicle as it is heavily camouflaged, but BMW has promised that the final product would be worth waiting for.

As previously reported, the future car will not be called the M1. That name will remain reserved in history by the original M1 that debuted thirty years ago. What will the name of the car be? Well, as Dr. Kay Segler, CEO BMW M GmbH, narrates the video he leaves out that piece of information. However, he did say it would be built in limited numbers.

BMW has told its dealers to hold delivery on the 1-Series models produced between January 2010 and May 2010 because of a fire risk until a recall can be performed, according to a report from Consumer Reports.

The document that was obtained by Consumer Reports states that there is insufficient clearance between the B-pillar and the seat belt tensions, which in the event of a crash, could result in friction that might cause a fire.

In addition to the models recalled, certain 2008-2011 1-Series coupes could be affected as well. Owners can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 for more details and to see if they need to get their vehicle checked.
