For the first time in 2010, J.D Power and Associates has released their list of the best cars. This year’s winner is the Porsche, taking the top spot away from Lexus. The study measures IQS based on problems reported per 100 vehicles. The lower the score, the better the quality.
For the first time in awhile, domestic brands fared quite well, some even higher than import brands.
"Domestic automakers have made impressive strides in steadily improving vehicle quality, particularly since 2007," said David Sargent, vice president of global vehicle research at J.D. Power and Associates. "This year may mark a key turning point for U.S. brands as they continue to fight the battle against lingering negative perceptions of their quality."
According to J.D Power, the industrial average for quality is 109 problems per 100 vehicles. Domestic brands as a whole managed 108 problems per 100, one point better than imports, which averaged 109 for all you mathematicians.
Acura made quite an impression, finishing second in the study. The Japanese luxury brand went from 111 in 2009, to 86 problems per 100 vehicles in 2010. Porsche managed 83, Mercedes got 87, and Lexus was third with 88. Ford was fourth with 93 problems and Lincoln got 106, even though nobody really owns one. Toyota fell to 21st in the study, a massive fall from seventh.
