Video: Toyota’s ‘Everyday Amazing’ ad is a breath of fresh air for the brand
Toyota almost wishes that these kinds of days would come more often.
OK, it’s not our place to continuously make fun of Toyota in light of the crisis they’re in these days so we figure that we’d – for once – commend them for this rather cutesy and upbeat ad for the 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid, which was built in Australia.
Taking its cue from (500) Days of Summer – yes, we loved that movie! – this Toyota ad sees a man who, despite the rather monotonous nature of his work, still finds it to appreciate the niceties that life – and a Toyota Camry Hybrid – affords.
Heck, we even have a full slate of gymnasts, acrobats, and cannonballs to accentuate the jollies of driving a Camry Hybrid.

Video: Banned Toyota Yaris commercial from Australia
Just like any warm-blooded, auto-loving homo sapien, we appreciate smart and witty car commercials when we see one. Unfortunately, this particular Toyota Yaris commercial from the Land Down Under can be described in neither of those terms.
While we have no problem with a little subtlety, the sexual undertones in this commercial are a little too blatant, which also raised some alarm bells in Australia, prompting the sanctioning folks to ban the ad from airing on TV.
Fortunately, no such ‘bans’ exist on the Internet and you can watch the entire commercial in all its entirety.

Video: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution commercial from Australia
The great thing about YouTube is you that can scour its site for a few minutes and find auto commercials from other countries that you wouldn’t be able to find simply by flipping through the channels on your local cable network. While there may be times where different languages prevent us from fully-comprehending these ads, the sheer satisfaction that comes with watching them is sure worth it, even if we don’t understand them sometimes.
Thankfully, this particular Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution commercial from Australia is dialogue free so we can enjoy it for what it is: a visceral treat that promotes the Mitsubishi Evolution as capable of defying the laws of physics. Give it a look and tell us that you weren’t floored by this visual masterpiece.

Tesla Roadster sets new record by going 313 miles on one charge
In the not-so-distant future, car record-seekers are more likely to pass up on chasing the any sort of speed marks in favor of a new trend that seems to be sweeping the electric car world: how far can you go on one charge.
This week, Australia played host to the Global Green Challenge, where among other things, a new record was set by Simon Hackett on how far a lithium-ion battery-powered car can go on just one full charge. Driving a Tesla Roadster across the plains and valleys of Australia, Hackett established a new mark of 313 miles (501 km) on one charge, beating the previous record holder – ironically, another Tesla Roadster – of 241 miles set earlier this year at the Rallye Monte Carlo d’Energies Alternatives.
While the record itself is impressive in its own right, we can’t help but wonder exactly how far the Roadster was going when it reached that numbers. We know for certain that when the Roadster flexes its muscles, it would be a stretch to even think that it can reach 200 miles on one charge.
Press release after the jump.

Australian beer company transforms a Porsche 911
It’s not every day that you see an alcohol manufacturer getting involved with four wheeled projects. However the Australian brewery VB Raw has taken on a rather unique approach to tuning with designer, Paul Begg, by stripping a classic 1978 Porsche 911 down to bare sheet metal before rebuilding it into a one of a kind rolling masterpiece that they are calling the ’Rawsche’.
The Rawsche was rebuilt via a live webcam on vbraw.com.au at the end of 2009, and was recently given away to one lucky viewer who best displayed their allegiance to the Raw cause by throwing one heck of a kegger. Everything from the modern headlamps sourced from a 993 to the classic grill over the flat six from an old 356 is pure Porsche.
