Audi is taking full advantage of the growing wave of interactive marketing by putting their new premium hatchback, the 2011 A1, into the virtual world of Playstation Home.

Now, if you’re expecting a whole lot from this showroom, then you’re going to be disappointed to know that it doesn’t have any other feature other than being just a simple showroom. But the good news is that Audi is planning on releasing some sort of A1 game in the coming months to go along with more information regarding the E-Tron. That’s something that we can all look forward to.

This “A1 showroom” is Audi’s second attempt in integrating their brand to an interactive audience after the release of their E-Tron Vertical Run racing game, which has been played by over 700,000 players since it was released late last year.

Just in time for the weekend, the four ringed German automaker has opened up their virtual showroom with an online configurator for the all new Audi A1. So stop what you are doing, put your work aside, go online and be creative!

Just a quick reminder, the 2011 Audi A1 compact city car is being offered with a choice of four four cylinder engines, made up of two TDI units and two more, small displacement, TFSI gasoline burning power plants that produce 86 HP and 122 HP respectively. Every mill is mated to a fuel saving seven speed S tronic gearbox and offers fuel economy between 43 MPG and 62 MPG depending on the engine and can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH ranging from 9 to 12 seconds with a top speed going from 111 MPH to 124 MPH depending on your fuel of choice.

We told you before that the series of promotional videos of the 2011 Audi A1 was going to get a little more interesting. After learning about the car’s LED daytime running lights, it’s colored roof arches, and a Wasabi Green interior accent, we now have the video of the A1 being test-driven by a couple of players from FC Bayern Munich, namely stalwarts Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm.

The two members of Bayern Munich are actually the first – and second – non-Audi employees to be given the treat of getting behind the wheel of the still-to-be unveiled hatchback. Lahm and Scheweinsteiger each took turns behind the wheel of the car and seemingly drove the wheels off of it whilst commenting on the car’s overall manoeuvrability.

Since the car will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in a little over a month, Audi – much to our chagrin – conveniently blurred the A1’s exterior for the entire video, leaving us with nothing more than speculation on the look of the car.

Then again, we won’t have to wait long to see the first official photos because according to Audi, those will be released sometime around the second week of February, a month or so before it’s world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

We’ve pretty much seen and heard everything there is to know about the Audi A1. From the car’s LED daylight running lights, to the colored roof arches, and even how Audi plans to “raise the bar” with the new A1. We’ve pretty much been given a comprehensive course on Audi’s new premium hatchback.

Well, we’re not done. Or at least Audi isn’t.

The next video to come out of Ingolstadt features Jana Bonkova, a color and trim designer from Audi. In this video, Bonkova goes into detail about the Audi using a Wasabi Green accent color in the car’s interior.

“Wasabi Green was used selectively to create accents, such as in details like seams,” she said. “We want to use this color to appeal to people who simply want something new and fresh.”

Some of you may find this bit of information as pretty trivial compared to the other videos, but we think that on the contrary, it might be of interest to someone who’s interested in purchasing an A1 down the road.

For those of you who think against us, don’t worry; we promise it gets a little more interesting, because from what we’ve heard, the next video that will come out will feature members of football club Bayern Munich taking the A1 out for a test drive. That, by all accounts, should be fun.

Days after releasing a video of the new A1 hatchback’s LED daylight running lights as explained by light designer Andre Georgi, Audi has come out with what looks to be the next instalment of its highly-interesting series of the new hatchback being discussed in great detail by the folks behind the project.

In this video, Jürgen Löffler, the Audi A1’s chief exterior designer, reveals that similar to the concept, the new production version of the hatchback will also come with contrasting roof arches, which can be customized in a number of colors depending on the owner’s preference and regardless of the car’s body color.

In addition to that, Löffler also explains how the A1’s shoulder line – or “tornado line”, as he so eloquently put it, wraps around the entire exterior of the car from the single-frame grilles in the front all the way to rear hatch.

It goes without saying that Audi is tirelessly promoting the A1 as it nears its world debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March. For a brand that’s hoping to take on the BMW-owned MINI in the compact hatchback segment, any and all marketing initiatives – in this case, elaborate discussions with the A1’s brain-trust – will be most definitely welcome.

When the 2011 Audi A1 hits dealerships sometime in the near future, don’t be surprised if the car gives off subtle hints from its more extravagant siblings, the Audi R8 supercar and the A8 luxury sedan, specifically the eyelash-looking LED lights found on the cars headlights.

The inclusion of LED daytime running lights, according to Audi light designer André Georgi, gives the A1 a more efficient lighting system that is brighter and, at the same time, less consuming than standard lighting systems found in other cars.

Aesthetically speaking, Georgi also suggested that a big reason in incorporating LED daytime running lights on the A1 was because of the company’s intention of infusing elements found from the R8 supercar and the A8 luxury sedan to make the A1 more attractive than any other car in its segment.

“On the A1, the front gets its character from a completely new form of LED daytime running lights. We have given our newcomer the sportiness of the R8 and the elegance of the A8,” he said.

At the rate Audi is releasing these videos; we’ll probably know everything about the Audi A1 even before it makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March.

We’ve already seen two videos about the A1’s daytime running lights and its customizable roof arches and now comes the third instalment of what is fast becoming a series of promo videos designed to, well, promote the new premium hatchback.

Just yesterday we told you that Justin Timberlake will be Audi’s next big spokesperson, and as part of his latest career choice he gets to hang out around cool cars that most enthusiasts would kill for. The singer/actor will play the leading role in an exceptional Audi A1 Internet campaign that is set to be launched in the spring of 2010, reasonable explanation why he was spotted next to the future premium compact city car from Audi.

Next spring the German automaker will launch their online advertising campaign to introduce the world to the new A1. Hence the shoot with Mr. Timberlake, who had this to say: “Audi has always been at the forefront of engineering and technology… and I am very excited to be a part of the next evolution conscience with Audi and the A1“. The photo shows a three door version of the ultra compact, but according to Audi there will also be a Sportback, Cabriolet and a Crossover variations of the smallest auto to wear the four ring logo. The new Audi A1’s official debut will be made at the Geneva Motor Show and sales will begin in Europe later on in 2010.
